JOB PURPOSE: 

Through continuous monitoring and reporting, the jobholder works closely with all supply chain & Smartphone related functions in the business to ensure quality at all times before and after the assembly line. They take lead in relevant ISO certification, champion Occupational Safety, Health and Environment (OSHE), and are experts in implementing Kaizen Principles in warehousing. 

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for all Product Quality related matters 
  • Establish inspection, measurement, and test plans including acceptance criteria of incoming components and finished goods 
  • Ensure high standards of product quality by inspecting input and output samples using industry-appropriate methods, such as comparing to standards, measuring dimensions, and examining the functionality 
  • Checking that the assembly line adheres to standards and procedures and complies with legal requirements 
  • Recording inspection results by completing reports, summarizing re-works and wastes, and inputting data into a quality database 
  • Assisting in the development of test methods and inspection plans, that can be used to determine the causes of product defects and reworks 
  • Keeping measurement equipment operating accurately by following calibration requirements and calling for repairs to ensure that assembly processes meet required standards 
  • Monitoring the use of equipment to ensure it is safe and develop discard methods for any that do not meet requirements 
  • Maintaining documentation of systems installed and maintenance procedures 
  • Evaluating operational systems processes and workflows and recommending modifications to increase productivity  
  • Collecting and compiling statistical quality data, and periodically reviewing the effectiveness of established quality improvement plans 
  • Writing technical reports and keeping up to date with developments in smartphone technology 
  • Ability to read schematics and PCBA board layouts with experience and ability to analyze and debug electronics at a PCB level, with strong knowledge of electrical wiring 
  • Take lead and work with the business and team at the warehouse to develop a Kaizen Charter 
  • Guides team through the Kaizen process, by coaching and educating team members on the application of Kaizen principles 
  • Is the subject matter expert in Kaizen, and helps the team to work together efficiently and effectively 
  • Training the production team on Kaizen 6S and quality control measures to improve product excellence 
  • Updating job knowledge by engaging in educational opportunities and regular training 
  • Ensures proper time management at work and in meetings 
  • Responsible for all Safety and Health Related activities on the assembly floor.  
  • Take lead in getting M-KOPA ISO certified in ISO9001, ISO14001, and ISO45001 
  • Ensure adherence to set safety, health, and environmental standards in all areas of the warehouse 
  • Lead the OSHE committee at the warehouse 
  • Track progress on OSHE indicators like the number of days without Lost-Time-Accident, Near-misses, etcetera  
  • Write any necessary OSHE incident report required  
  • Drive the Environmental agenda 

EXPERIENCE/ SKILLS & COMPETENCIES/ LICENCES & CERTIFICATIONS/ EDUCATION REQUIRED

  • Degree in BEng/BSc. in Electrical/Electronics Engineering/Physics or related field 
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role. 
  • Certification in quality control is preferred. 
  • C1 Electrical License from ERC  
  • First Aid & Safety Certificate will be an added advantage 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills 
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills 
  • Keen attention to detail 
  • Basic computer and math skills to calibrate and measure specifications 
  • Ability to use measuring devices like gauges, meters, calipers, and computers 
  • In-depth understanding of company standards 
  • Up-to-date knowledge of federal and industry standards and best practices 
  • Understanding of target market and consumer needs 
  • Blueprint reading capabilities 
  • Documentation and reporting skills 
  • Teamwork and collaboration 
  • Comfortable standing or walking for long periods of time
