Job Description

Reporting Internship Co-ordinator, the overall purpose of this role the consolidation of knowledge, skills and attitudes while working under supervision to fulfill registration requirements and become competent practitioners. The Medical Officer Intern is expected to rotate in Inpatient units and Outpatient units under Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, and Psychiatry.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Admission: As part of our general day-to-day tasks, a medical officer intern is the first point of contact with the patient, to clerk and ensure accurate and efficient diagnosis and management is started for the patient, under the supervision of the medical officer, senior registrar or Consultant.
  • Monitor and care for patients- Preparing for and participating in daily ward rounds, documenting and executing management plans, appraising relevant consultants on new developments or results
  • Surgical skill acquisition – Observe, assist and perform surgical and obstetric procedures under supervision as per the Kenya Medical and Dental Practitioners Council logbook so as to understand and participate in preoperative, intraoperative, and post-op care.
  • Championing evidence-based practice- Participate in the development of policies, procedures & standard work practice including ISO & Kaizen.
  • Participation in Continuous Professional Development activities: includes attending and presenting CMEs and journal club presentations to enhance self-directed learning and acquire basic research principles.
  • Completion of rotations in stipulated time and fulfillment of criteria in internship logbooks as specified by the Kenya Medical and Dentists Practitioners Council.
    Qualifications & Requirements
  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from a recognized institution
  • Must hold a valid practicing internship license from KMPDC
  • Evidence of having been oathed by the council and signing of the Hippocratic Oath.
  • Must have an in-depth understanding of safety guidelines
