Job Description

Our client, a reputable law firm in Nairobi, is seeking to recruit a Legal Assistant – Conveyancing to support the firm's conveyancing and property practice.

The successful candidate will provide legal, transactional and administrative support in the preparation and processing of property transactions, including sales and purchases, transfers, leases, charges, discharges and other land-related matters.

The role requires a highly organised and detail-oriented individual with a good understanding of Kenyan conveyancing procedures, land documentation and relevant government processes.

Key Responsibilities

Conveyancing & Property Transactions

  • Assist advocates in managing residential, commercial and other property transactions.
  • Assist with the preparation, review and processing of sale agreements, transfer documents, leases, licences, charges, discharges and other conveyancing documentation.
  • Conduct and obtain official land searches and assist in reviewing title and property information.
  • Assist with property due diligence and verification of ownership and encumbrances.
  • Follow up on consent requirements, land rates, land rent, valuation and other transaction-related requirements.
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of documents to the relevant Land Registry and government offices.
  • Follow up on registration of transfers, leases, charges, discharges and other instruments.
  • Assist in coordinating property searches, valuations, stamping and registration processes.
  • Liaise with clients, advocates, agents, valuers, surveyors, government offices and other relevant parties as required.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of conveyancing transactions and client files.
  • Monitor transaction timelines, pending documentation and completion requirements.
  • Assist in preparing completion statements, correspondence and transaction reports.
  • Ensure all documents are properly filed, indexed and securely maintained.
  • Undertake legal research on property and land-related matters when required.
  • Provide general administrative and clerical support to the Conveyancing Department.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognised institution.
  • A Diploma in Law / Paralegal Studies from a recognised institution will be considered for candidates with relevant conveyancing experience.
  • Knowledge of Kenyan land and property laws and conveyancing procedures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to work with digital document management systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail and confidentiality.

Additional Advantage:

  • Knowledge of Ardhisasa and other relevant land/property online platforms.
  • Training or certification in conveyancing, property law or paralegal practice.
  • Knowledge of relevant Land Registry and government processes.

Experience

  • 2–4 years' relevant experience in a law firm, preferably within a Conveyancing / Property Law Department.
  • Practical experience supporting property transactions, including sales, purchases, transfers, leases, charges and discharges.
  • Experience conducting or processing official searches and handling land/property documentation.
  • Experience following up on stamping, registration, consents, valuations, land rates, land rent and other conveyancing requirements.
  • Experience dealing with clients and external stakeholders in property transactions will be an advantage.
  • Previous experience working in a reputable law firm is preferred.
