Job Description

Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organisation that provides assistance to people affected by war, conflict, natural disasters, outbreaks and epidemics or healthcare exclusion. The organisation now works in more than 70 countries around the world, with significant projects across East African countries including in Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.

MSF Eastern Africa is the regional institutional office for MSF. The office focusses on representation and networking, recruiting and supporting staff from the region, communications and fundraising, as well as on other dossiers of importance to MSF such as Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI), mutualization, trainings, medical operational support and environmental health. MSF EA is seeking an energetic and highly motivated individual to support the General Direction, management team (MT) and including Key Projects and operations of the Section office.

Main objectives of the role

The role will support the General Direction primarily, and the Management Team (MT) with the coordination of inclusive processes, to ensure a successful designation and implementation of MSF EA Strategic Plans and Annual Plans, as well as the management of transversal projects and Units.

The position will support the delivery of files related to the MSF EA strategic priorities, both current and developing, as well managing the overall running of the office infrastructure area. The position will also coordinate and implement specific projects and events related to reflection and engagement with external actors.

Key accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for leading the process of designing, implementing, monitoring, analysing and reporting of the Strategic Plan, Annual Plan and other internal and international control cycles.
  • Supporting other areas of Reporting and decision-making processes with the Management Team.
  • Support with the organization of specific projects (i.e Scientific Days and Medical Innovation initiatives) that are linked to strategic advocacy and medical initiatives of MSF EA.
  • Responsible for following up MSF EA dossiers as assigned and support the executive office.
  • Responsible for office and infrastructure running.
  • Support with external and internal representation and networking of MSF EA.
  • Responsible for monitoring, evaluating and analyzing the SP from time to time.
  • Responsible for the organisation and administration of projects and major events.
  • Responsible for the MSF EA Office, security and infrastructure management.
  • Responsible for Information Management for MSF EA

SELECTION CRITERIA

Qualifications & competencies Required

  • Master’s in administration/International relations/communication or equivalent discipline.
  • Excellent planner, organizer, coordinator and administrator.
  • Affinity and experience with Information Management.
  • Punctual, pro-active and stress resistant.
  • Very good communication, representation & networking abilities.
  • High level of integrity and sound judgement.
  • Interest in the humanitarian sector.
  • Result and Quality Orientation.
  • Initiative and independence combined with the ability to work well as part of a team
  • Excellent knowledge of written & spoken English. Good command of French is an important asset.

Desirable experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in senior management, coordination and/or administrative roles.
  • MSF or similar iNGO experience is desirable.
  • High level of understanding of organizational issues. Understanding of the MSF working environment is an asset.
  • Experience in project management.

  • A full-time employment contract as soon as possible through MSF East Africa Section Office in Nairobi.    
  • An annual salary of KES 6,217,417 based on a full-time appointment.
  • Global benefit package including school fee benefit/support for dependents and other allowances ranging between KES 75,000-140,000/month based on individual & administrative status.
  • Other benefits include 25 days of annual leave, Employer Pension contribution, Relocation support for non-Kenyan residents etc based on MSF EA terms/conditions.
